Childs Wooden Playhouse

Childs Wooden Playhouse

Has any parent purchased their child a childrens playhouse for the backyard that has electricity?

Today there are tons of backyard childrens playhouses that one can purchase for $5,000 to $8,000.

Have you purchased one for your children? Does it have electricity?

Do you allow them to sleep in the playhouse overnight?

Are these playhouses insulated and cozy or just wooden boxes?

Are the doors and walls safe and sturdy? Or are these playhouses dangerous meaning someone can break in if your children are inside playing board games with the door closed.

If your childs playhouse had a heater inside would you be more likeley or less likely to let them use it to play board games and read in during the afternoon?

Would you close the playhouse door while you leave your children inside to play games or read?

I would think that for 5 to 8 thousand dollars you can add a playroom in your house. Or have one built for you. I would not use electric in there but if you do need to you can run a low voltage or a battery lighting system for them and as far as sleeping out there over night it depends on how you feel. I let my kids sleep in the tent and they feel like they are camping. Sometimes they come in the house and I will find them in their own bed. But it depends on your yard and if it is secured and in a safe area and the age of your child.

I would think about locks. This could be a good idea or a bad one. The lock can keep them safe but you also will not be able to check on them unless they let you in (sometimes it is hard to wake them up). And some locks may trap a kid inside if they are not old enough. It is just something you will have to think about. You must be able to get in at all times.

Kids like to play and pretend so it is good for them to feel like a home owner. They get a kick out of it. Most play houses will get bugs inside and it is something you will need to find out what kind you have in your area like the Black widow spider or other creepy crawly things. Most play houses are built on the ground and seem like empty box to bugs so they will move in so you will need to check it if it is not used all the time.

Putting in a heater sounds kind of dangerous for a play house. I would just have then wear a jacket. Most kids don’t know what fire is, so they put things on light bulbs not knowing that it is bad. Same as a heater it seems they don’t understand that it can start a fire unless you show them. They almost don’t believe you and won’t listen.

Think about the size of the house and the air supply. If you build it too air tight to keep them warm and then close the door, you could have, (in a sick way of saying it) but you may have built a tomb. So you need to think and about ventilation.

I would say 8 years old would be old enough for them to sleep in there with a few friends but you have to leave your house door unlocked all night so they can use the bathroom. I would lock the yard gates from the inside so your kids friend your watching don’t escape. And if any kids need to go to there home they need to see you first and you will get them home.

You have a lot to think about and I know I have not helped you as much as you wanted. But I felt it was important to me and thought I would share it with you.
