Whitstable’s impressive selection of arts, theatre and live music venues play host to numerous events throughout their busy calendar.Described as a min Canterbury by the sea Whitstable has a selection of chic arts and crafts shops, and its famous Oyster festival runs over 9 days annually every July. The Whitstable museum and Gallery on Oxford Street will take you on a journey through Whitstable Maritime history including the fishing, smuggling and the towns unique history of scuba diving. The museum often boasts outstanding visiting art exhibits including recently one on Matisse! You’ll note the number of small alley ways in the town (most with character names such as Squeeze Gut Alley), built deliberately to create greater access for residents to their business – the sea. They also provided rather convenient escape routes for smugglers.

The Lindley Players are still going strong and their programme consists of a lovely variety or music hall, pantomime and drama. A cafe is on-site with workshops and talks running regularly. If you’re fond of live music, fine real ales and traditional old inns with friendly welcomes, then Whitstable will suit you fine. Top traditional inn venues in the town for live music include the Duke of Cumberland and the Old Neptune inn right on the beach.

Whitstable’s Harbour houses its fantastic fish market and one of Kent’s best seafood restaurants – The Crab and Winkle, a popular choice all year round. he town has a rich maritime heritage, explored well in the Whitstable Museum where shipbuilding, diving history and the once thriving Tankerton Copperas industry are all explored in detail.

Whitstable offers some stunning coastal walking all year round, with glorious sunsets and lively water sports scenes from Whitstable’s Yacht Club.

About the Author

My kids have so many toys I don’t know what I’m going to do for christmas!?

I have 2 girls, 2.5 year old and a 13 month old. They are 19 months apart..so to make matters worse the toys that I bought for my 2.5 year old…those same toys they still sell at the store! so its hard to find my 13 month old stuff. They have all the little playschool and fisher prices toys, you name it, building blocks, toy phones, kitchen, desk, barbies, toy animals, larger toys like a mower, vacum, doll house, bike, they have so much! and OTHER people buy them stuffed animals which i HATE, pointless things that just sit there an pile up. Anyways, they don’t have one of those indoor/outdoor playhouses, those cost $300 (grandma and grandpa and mommy are going 50/50 on the cost) but other than that…I don’t know what else to buy!! and my parents are going to think im cheap…btw they also have a ton of clothes, so they dont need clothes =( help =(

WOW…

You need to get away from the idea that you need to BUY THEM THINGS!

I’m from a family that felt that if you buy someone something, it is the same as giving them love and attention and that is FAR FAR FAR from the truth.

I would have given up all of my toys and accumulated crap if it meant that I would have been able to form an actual bond with my family!

Don’t think “STUFF”, think “Bonding Activity”.

A trip to the zoo… A picnic at the local park… Building a fort in the back yard… Baking cookies with mommy… A new book for you to read to them…

For every DOLLAR you wanted to spend ON them, turn that in to 10 minutes you want to spend WITH them.

I can assure you with all honesty that when they are grown and look back, they won’t be talking about how much shiny crap you bought for them…

Oh, and when they grow out of what they have now, don’t throw it away… Join the Freecycle Network and put what you have up under the “Offer” section and someone that needs baby toys, clothes, furniture, etc. will come to wherever you tell them to go and pick it all up from you.

And when you need more ‘grown up’ toys, clothes, furniture, etc. you post “Wanted” or answer an offer you find on there and all you have to do is go pick the stuff up at the person’s house.
