Used Playhouses
Remember when they used to be cool cartoons to watch on Saturday Mornings?
Garfield and Friends, Pee Wee’s Playhouse, Cowboys of Moo Mesa…..nothing on worth watching on Saturday mornings anymore.
Yes, but when I was a kid, there was NO TV to watch, so we just bought comic books to read or go to the movie matinee to watch the cartoons!!

Wooden Clubhouse
Name of book with child inventor who leaned back to think who had clubhouse behind a fence?
When I was in sixth grade, about 25 years ago, I used to love reading a series of young adult books which featured a young gang of inventors who’d solve mysteries (I think). The key figure in the books was a young boy who was the “brains of the operation.” His signature move was to lean back in his chair to think, because he claimed it got the blood to the back of his brain which was an area that wasn’t used very often and that’s where his good ideas are.
I also remember they had a clubhouse hidden in piles of junk in a junkyard. You’d access the secret entrance by pressing a certain knot in the wooden fence.
One storyline had the gang building a fake Loch Ness monster out of a boat, which I believe was remote-controlled.
I would love to locate these long-lost books. Does anyone know the name of the book series I’m talking about?
“The Three Investigators” by Robert Arthur?
http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Terror-Castle-Three-Investigators/dp/0679811761/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
“n the Salvage Yard, the Three Investigators have made their Headquarters. Headquarters is inside a banged-up mobile home trailer, quite hidden from view by the piles of salvage which surround it, junk The Three Investigators have carefully piled to conceal the trailer, although as a joke they have also placed, on the top of one of the piles, an old sign with a large black arrow and the word Office; the arrow really does point to Headquarters. But despite this joke, even Titus Jones does not know that his nephew Jupiter, with his friends Pete Crenshaw and Bob Andrews, have turned the trailer into a Headquarters with an office, a darkroom, a special lab, and an office, with typewriter, telephone, desk and tape-recorder. All the equipment in Headquarters, except for the telephone, has been rebuilt from junk that came into the yard. The Three Investigators have paid for the telephone with money they made helping around the Jones Salvage Yard.”

Kids Wood Playhouse
What kind of saw should I get for a beginner?
I am thinking a circular saw and a sander (for nice edges). I am want to make some bookshelves and a wood exercise pen that the hamster can’t climb out of and work my way up until I am comfortable to make the kids a playhouse.
What is a good saw to get started? A jigsaw (as I will be starting with smaller wood)?
I am going to drill a board onto my saw horses to clamp the wood down. Or is there some sort of table I can buy that doesn’t take too much room?
I have every kind of saw you can think of. If you only have one, on a limited budget, I think it would be a jig saw as it will cut both straight and curves. You might kick in a few more bucks and get a decent hand saw.
For a workbench, it’s hard to beat a Workmate for utility and portability (and I have a number of wokrbenches from a European cabinetmaker’s bench to a hand sawing bench, too.)
For a sander, get a random-orbit 5″ from one of the name brands (DeWalt, Porter-Cable, Metabo, Ridgid, Bosch, Makita). It will last a lifetime and you will be able to get replacement parts when you need them.
See the free e-book below for some good starter information and confirmation on these choices. (keep checking back as they frequently add new chapters to it.)
Outside Playhouse
Would it be possible to have a outdoor playhouse for my quaker parrot?
My quaker parrot is Clipped so he can’t fly but and hes about 4 months I really want to get him a avairy or play house thing outside like 4 times the size of his cage now since he is not a real big bird is this possible also he cant fly? I was just thinking I can put lots of ropes and tree like things in there? Another thing how exactly do I get him to go out of his cage into another cage as he has never been outside?
Yes. Just make sure that it is big and bring your bird in if it is windy because drafts and wind can make your bird very sick.
Wooden Tree House
I am sure you’d agree: A wooden deck is a really versatile addition to any house. It can be used to sit outside, entertaining friends and family and to enjoy outdoor living. Did you know that decks are much easier to build than most people realize and that they usually add significantly to the value of your home?
Of course, having a deck built in the back of your house by professional builders means that you don’t need to worry about any mess or clean-up, but it also means that you won’t be able to personalize it as much as you might like.
Use a Woodworking Plan
If you are not quite sure where to start building an exquisite and fascinating deck for your house, why not use the help of a woodworking plan? They truly are a great help, no matter if you are a beginner or an experienced woodworker already. For starters, the plans already have all of the steps laid out so that you don’t need to worry about guessing the types or quantities of materials you’ll need.
And let’s not forget how helpful it is to have everything broken down, usually in the form of step-by-step instructions. It’s therefore easy and not a problem at all if you put your tools down for a day or even a week and when you are ready to continue, you can easily start again where you left off.
If you take the time to search the internet for good woodworking plans, you’ll find that you usually receive not just one wooden deck plan, but a variety of them. Of course, there are the simple types of decks for your home that have a basic platform and railing, but you can also find more detailed plans, such as plans that explain how to make a two-story deck or customize it for an outdoor hot tub.
Cost Benefits
A woodworking plan that lays out the entire steps for the deck you’re going to build also has its cost benefits. Just think about how much labor costs are going to be. Indeed, you are going to save all the costs for the professional builder and only have to worry about finding the money for the materials. If you want company and help when building your deck, you might want to consider asking a friend or family member instead and reward them with a party once the deck is build – much cheaper than paying the professional.
When all is said and done, the wooden deck you build for your home is a project that you can be proud of and show off to your family and friends. If you take the time to carefully plan how you’re going to build it, then you are well on your way to success.
No matter if you you are a beginner or more experienced already, before starting on building your first wooden deck, go to http://www.WoodworkCourse.com to get hold of a FREE woodworking course to help you get started.

Wooden Cubby House
Outdoor games are mostly enjoyed by children and if you have a kid in your house then climbing frames can provide endless hours of fun for your kids.
If you run a playhouse then it is a must for you to have one for the playhouse. When children play on frames they exercise a lot and this also keeps them fit and busy.
If you want the best climbing frame for your child then you can choose a wooden one. Wooden ones are a bit more expensive as compared to the other types as they are designed to keep your child safe. Wooden frames can actually last for a prolonged period of time.
The ones that are available in plastic are more popular as they attract toddlers and small kids because of their bright colors. The plastic used in making them is a sturdy plastic which can also resist rough use and adverse weather conditions.
The frame is made up of plastic components which are usually round, thus reducing the chances of your child getting injured while playing on it. Safety of your child should be your main concern while choosing kids play equipment of any sort.
If you want a combination of wood, metal, and plastic, then there are hybrid Cubby Houses which are easily available at regular stores or on different websites. Children can experiment and learn a lot as they can design their own unique frames.
These frames are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, designs and colors. As they differ in variety they also differ in their cost. You can also choose many different accessories according to the type of frame you want to build. An outdoor frame is an ideal option if you want peace and quiet within your home. The kids can play outside and have as much as fun as they want without you getting disturbed.
If you want you can also build an indoor C.F., Many accessories can be added to it. such as ladders, rope bridges, rope climbers and tens. Climbing frames are not only for the physical fitness of your child, but they also help in the mental development of your child. Doing ample research is always good while buying a frame. While researching online you can compare different brands, materials, and their prices. Also choose a model that suits the physical abilities of your kid.
As climbing frames are quite expensive, ensure that you get one which is affordable, safe and fun to play on.

Transforming a cubby house into a chicken shed?
I would like to transform a wooden cubby house into a chook shed. The cubby has two open windows, metal roof and a wooden floor. It’s about 1 meter deep, 1.7 metres wide and 1.85 m high. The chickens would free range during the day. I’d love to do it with the kids without involving my lovely husband so the easier the better! Many thanks for any advice. I can send a photo of the shed if that helps.
I recently answered 2 COOP questions, and don’t use metric, but I get it that 1 metre is approx. 44 inches.
Also not at all familiar with CHOOK as a slang word perhaps? Chickens in any quantity would be extremely cramped in that space.
A nesting or roosting Chicken should have an area to themselves of at least 1.5 CU. FT. and adequate space to move about in a coop, as well as perches, ventilation, easy access.
Certainly the COOP could comfortably accomodate 3 Adult Chickens, or perhaps an additional Bantam, but any more would be pushing it.

building a playhouse yourself?
so i want to build my daughter a playhouse for our backyard i want to make it unique and bigger then what i would find in the store i want to buy my own wood and make this myself i know how to build but how would i go about setting the foundation making the walls stay put last threw the winter will just nails work also my biggest prob is what do i put on the outside of the walls like inside i was thinking doing like a house with drywall but outside idk how i go about doing that
help please!!!!
Grab plans for a good sized shed and modify them. You can do the outside in logs, clapboard, T-11 or even siding. Check Craig’s list and you may be able to get shingles and supplies such as insulation free or next to nothing from job overruns. If you are not heating the play house I would suggest you use a more durable product for the inside walls – such as paneling or plastic tile board. It will be easier to clean any mildew. You may also want to consider looking up plans for Tumbleweed houses. http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/plans/
