Large Wooden Playhouse

Large Wooden Playhouse

Can I restore an old wooden playhouse?

It’s rather large, and while sturdy, (actually enough to support man climbing on top), the floor is decayed and needs replacing, the wood id coming up and there are countless spidersacks and mildew/mold in the corners. It is large, maybe 6 feet by 6 feet and about 6 feet tall. And has a plexiglass/wooden roof. It will be a while before I could have the time and resourses to demolish it and haul it away, so I am exploring the idea of restoring it. Plus I like it. I think its an interesting part of my yard. Maybe I can make it into a trellice or something. I am big on reusing and recycling. Any ideas on how to clean up old wood and protect it in the future?

It depends upon what you want to get out of it. If you are looking for a protective and secure shed then you need to anchor it.

If you are looking for an interesting feature you could lift it up on posts and put a patio under it after removing the floor.

If you are looking to “restore it” you will have to take apart and replace the bad parts.

By having a floor you are inviting animals to live under it. Why did the floor rot out and not the roof? You can eliminate the floor and any rotted lower portion of the walls and install a new bottom plate or a reinforcement on the inner edge. Once secure you could raise the structure (with jacks) and block it up or move it and build a patio of bricks laid in sand under it. The corner posts could be buried in the earth to act as supporting piers. Actual construction will depend upon the current shape it is in and what is your ultimate goal.

Once it is “restored” like any building made of wood, it is best to shed water away from the building and make sure that ground slopes away from it and not into it so that the building is not at the bottom of a bowl like ground area.

A picture would help.

Indoor Playhouses

Indoor Playhouses

Eassy needs a Thesis. Can you help me out?

During the Elizabethan era there were three different types of venues, which included: the Inn-yards, Open Air Amphitheaters, and Playhouses. The Inn-yards was one of the original venues, but some of them were alter into Playhouses. The Amphitheaters were made for the summer months and when it was time for winter, they would move into the indoor playhouses.

the first sentence sounds fine for a thesis statement. hard to say w/o reading whole thing

Wooden Tree Houses

Wooden Tree Houses

Majority of ancestral homes all over the world are commanding higher prices than newly built houses. A survey of these homes will show that most of them either have wooden panels or wood floorings, which makes them good choices for real estate investment.

Realtors admit that houses that have wood floorings or wooden walls fetch a higher market price and they are also easily sold. This may be because buyers believe that hardwoods are simply elegant and can stand the test of time.

Wood materials for flooring projects are now available in different varieties and colors, thanks to the rising demand for wooden floors. Manufacturers are outdoing each other in having the most variety of wood materials for construction use.

Among the top choices for wood materials are oaks, pines and even Birch trees. These materials are durable and can easily blend with any home design or interiors. These materials are also ideal as floor materials for office and residential properties.

However, the availability of a great number of choices for wood flooring materials is making it difficult for most homeowners to decide on what wood material to choose for their flooring projects. Having an expert on your side when choosing wood materials for a floor project would be good but what if you do not have such an expert?

First decide on the budget you will be allotting for the floor, taking into consideration the exact measurements of the room or the floor where the wood will be placed. Also bear in mind the volume of people in the room, the humidity of the area where the wood will be placed as well as the maintenance required for the flooring material.

Hardwood flooring has a unique beauty and appeal because of the inherent elegance of wood. Most homeowners are opting for hardwood flooring because of its durability and ability to mix and match with any interior design.

However, other homeowners are also opting for laminate flooring mainly because they are sturdy, easy to install and maintain. It can also stand wear and tear even for a floor with large volume of traffic. Birch laminate flooring is a good choice for flooring projects because it can be easily installed in any floor even by the homeowners themselves.

Birch laminate flooring closely resembles the design of the Birch tree hardwood. It is becoming a top choice for wood flooring because it does not easily stain and fade even with sunlight exposure. Like hardwoods, birch laminate floorings are not prone to dust and other allergens so they are advisable for people suffering from asthma and other allergies.

Birch laminates can also be easily installed in any floor surface whether concrete or wood. While hardwood is used in most dining floors, laminate floorings are also becoming more popular dining floor material because of their close resemblance to real hardwood.

Laminate floorings are easily cleaned with a damp rug so they should not be cleaned using abrasive materials or polishes as these can damage the quality of the laminate flooring.

Homeowners and contractors who want hardwood on their floors but who could not afford the material should try installing birch laminated flooring material. They will easily be amazed with the ease with which this material can be installed as well as with its resemblance to the real hardwood.

Tanjong Jara Resort:
Tanjong Jara Resort is situated on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia and lies mid-way between Kuala Terengganu in the North and Kuantan to the South. The Resort is built on a sprawling 17-hectare beachfront site facing the South China Sea.

All 99 rooms are uniquely designed using local rich timbers and furnished to a high standard using luxurious fabrics and materials. The rooms and suites are positioned along a beautiful coastline, facing the South China Sea, the tropical landscaped gardens and beach. Originally built in 1979, the Resort was awarded one of the world’s foremost prizes for architecture, the prestigious Aga Khan Award.

Extensive research into the historical architecture of the area, the Malay culture, climate, history, art, geography and other environmental factors was undertaken prior to designing this project. The knowledge gained from the research, in particular about the East Coast, its people and their heritage led to the design of a resort imbued with the very essence of its locale.

The basic design motif for the buildings was found in indigenous and leisure-oriented Istanas, the elegantly crafted wooden palaces of Malay sultans of long ago. It features traditional art forms and craftsmanship. The Aga Khan Award jurors praised Tanjong Jara Resort for the courage to search out and successfully adapt and develop an otherwise rapidly disappearing traditional architecture and craft to meet the demands of contemporary architecture.

Although it has recently been extensively renovated to the standards of a modern deluxe international resort, its original beauty has been preserved, and even enhanced. The look and feel reflects a combination of styles from within the Malay Archipelago, the philosophy being to assure guests of an experience that is Unmistakably Malay.

Pangkor Laut Resort:
This internationally acclaimed resort is located on the 300 acre privately owned island of Pangkor Laut, one of Malaysia’s few remaining unspoiled islands. Only a fraction of the island has been developed to house the Resort while the rest is covered by lush and unspoiled two million year old rainforest.

Located off the west coast of the Malaysian Peninsular, amidst the exotic surroundings of the Malaccan Straits, Pangkor Laut Resort was voted one of the two most beautiful islands in the world by Conde Nast Traveller magazine.

A total of 148 Malaysian-style luxury villas have been painstakingly created to blend with the natural environment of the Island. Every villa and suite features spacious interiors, luxurious fabrics, and private balconies with cushioned deck chairs. Ensuite bathrooms have large vanities, a separate shower and many have an oversized tub in a private outdoor courtyard or if indoors, enjoy large windows opening out onto the tropical gardens or sea.

In total, there are seven restaurants, a fully equipped gymnasium, an award wining spa, squash and tennis courts, as well as a range of water sport activities and luxury sailing. Nature lovers may join Uncle Yip, the resident naturalist, on a trek into the jungle for a close encounter with the island’s fascinating flora and fauna.

The beauty of the island so overwhelmed Luciano Pavarotti during his visit to the island, he proclaimed, “This place is enchanting. It is paradise. This morning when I woke up, I went out and I was moved, almost crying to see what beautiful things God has done”.

Kids Wooden Playhouse

If I want to clamp my piece of wood before I cut it, what do I clamp it onto?

I am going to buy a saw and make my kids a playhouse (wish me luck!). I am thinking a cirular saw… but than I guess I will need a sander or they can get slivers on the edges?… Anyway, do I need some sort of table to clamp it too? All I have a couple of those ‘wooden horses’ that I used to put saddles on back in the day… Any tips for me?

You could make a table by putting a piece of wood your not using across the wooden horses and shooting a few screws though them

Ideas for toys from around the house?

I’m trying to think of things my 8 month old daughter can play with that I already have around the house. So far, she loves a wooden spoon and measuring cups. What else can I give her to play with that’s safe?

pots, pans, plastic containers, empty boxes, laundry baskets,
A good rule is not to give her anything that fits through a toilet paper roll.

Kids Backyard Playhouse

Creative ways to use/transform a tree stump for kids?

I just bought a house with a really neat backyard designed with kids in mind which is good because I have 3 children (ages 3, 5, and 7) and I also run a home daycare. There is a large playhouse that someone built (complete with glass pane widows, house doors, and shingle roof), a hidden treehouse, a miniature waterfall, a small pond, and a “secret garden”. There happens to also be this large tree stump that is about 2 1/2 feet high and 2 to 2 1/2 feet in diameter that I would like to do something creative with for the kids, but would also look nice with the backyard landscaping. I thought of transforming it into a table or a chair but would appreciate any other ideas! Thanks :)

rip a seat out with a tigersaw, chisel smoothish, and make a fairy throne. Or drill the middle out and make a lid from a slice of the stump so the can hide treasures. OR stick 2 twig arms on the side and use expanding foam to “sculpt” a face, paint with craft paint in tree colors so the have a gnome guardian.

Outdoor Play Houses

Outdoor Play Houses

Anyone had a cat run(outdoor encloser) outdoors? What are your opinions, ?

This is my 1st time of having a outdoor cat encloser, we are getting land that 9.03squares metres & large single story house will be organised to be built soon. Mum a big believer in free soley outdoor cats-occassionly indoor cats and is fine with cats indoors at night. But I realise the dangers of allowing cats outside and have convinced her that the outdoor cat house will be a good alternative.its going be VERY LARGE TO HUGE INSIDE THE OUTDOOR CAT HOUSE.
the cats will still be allowed inside. I will be spending plenty of time with playing with the cats. I got a cat carrier full of toys already-including mouse toys, 2 christmas stockings for cats(slightly differentent, but very similar), rods with toys-3 in 1 rod + and extra rod with mouse, also got a cat tunnel, loads of other toys and am looking to put a decent and safe shading in the outdoor cat house.

Our enclosure is on this page:
